This week our guest is Don Richards the Convention Chairman of Gobble-con who talks about what it takes to run an anime convention, what his goals for starting his convention are, and his vision of what a small fan run convention should be. Jon updates everyone on his opinion of Oreimo while I wax poetic about the Haruhi Suzumiya episode “Someday in the Rain.” In news Production resumes on Satoshi Kon’s last film, Sentai Filmworks adds Clannad Movie license and Clannad After Story dub, Summer Wars US theatrical dates listed, 37 Japanese Publishers to Launch North American Manga Portal, and K-On! character goods stolen from real life counterpart.

Will Robertson from Animeloveu.com comes on the show to talk about ConnectiCon 2010. How was the Cosplay? Why can’t ConnectiCon stick to a schedule? What were the best panels? Why can’t we all be as cool as Geeknights? Jon and Scott give an overview of the Summer 2010 season so far and the panel discusses the origin of Cat Girls. Please excuse the Megatoyko reference.

Update: 7/18/10

Scott Rubin from Geeknights has contacted me with the following corrects to some of the information provided about ConnecticCon:

  • Swap meets did happen early each day in the second panel room. While they were a test run this year Scott promised in 2011 that they'd be "better than the swap meets at any other con."
  • Scott and Brandon DeCoster were head of panels, not heads of programing. They had no control over main events just the five panel rooms, the daytime ballroom schedule, and the two workshops.
